SCM David and Goliath

The traditional paradox in systems has been should we buy or should we build? Building has always been a problem because systems quickly grow old and just as you've completed your new SCM module it's time to rebuild it. One new option that is changing this paradox for the better is agile software development. Agile SCM structure is being adopted by smaller companies than the traditional Oracle SCM and SAP SCM. But it's definately worth a look if you're considering a new system. We believe that is's the shape of things to come.

SCM Software

See Supply Chain Management for SCM systems which are browser-based are inherently easier to configure.

The big feature of an agile system is that it's obviously very agile. These are systems that can be configured way beyond the user defined fields, API integration and embedded procedures capabilities found in most existing systems. Generally speaking, agile systems can modified to an extensive degree. Aloowing you to dramatically alter the underlying data structure, user interface and reporting capabilities. The kinds of changes you would really need to make if you were interested in really being able to take advantage of new business opportunities. Or if you were interested in doing a better job that your competition.

But how can you develop an intuitive system and not have the redevelopment headaches every seven to ten years? Redevelopment is a huge reason for purchasing an Oracle SCM or an SAP SCM. Well one of the technologies being used by some of the agile software vendors is Model driven architecture MDA. MDA allows you create highly modified platforms and then simply upgrade them as Microsoft releases new operating system technology. Companies like Tuppas software and ShopFloorReporting.com have been using MDA for years and helping their customers maintain competitive advantage. If you're looking at SCM agile systems and MDA technology are definately worth taking a look at.
