Wireless Production Control Tools

Wireless systems have obviously changed manufacturing for the better but is there more that they can do? There are a host of new companies that are bringing wireless technology to bear within production control software. Wireless has been used for sometime in barcode scanning but the release of the smartphone and the browser based blackberry devices are changing the way that data push can happen in manufacturing.

Manufacturing Software

Highly configurable systems are outpacing canned systems and providing a path for innovation. Advancements in browser based technology are enabling agile deployment strategies.

Manufacturing software helps manufacturers improve production performance by providing visable control and reporting across the enterprise.

Data push is sort of information that's pushed to the user without being requested. Sounds a lot like spam, huh? Well not really, many of the newer production control systems are designed to push data to management when there are crucial issues occurring. The issues can be as broad as the manufacturing process itself but can include things like efficiency updates, downtime problems failure codes on automation and the like.

There are many companies offering these new systems. The leaders on the automation side are obviously Rockwell automation and Intellution. For systems like production performance reporting, scheduling and plant level reporting systems Tuppas and ShopFloorReporting.com seem to be the emerging MES leaders.
